Sheerlund Appears on
What’s My Line?
What’s My Line? first aired on the CBS television network in 1950, and went on to become the longest-running panel game-show in television history. The object of the game was to guess the occupation of each contestant by asking questions that could be answered “yes” or “no.” The high point of the show was always the segment in which the panel donned blindfolds and tried to guess the identity of a special celebrity “mystery guest.” The show was moderated by newsman John Charles Daly, who became known for his wittily misleading amplifications of contestants’ “yes” or “no” answers; the famous panel consisted of publisher Bennett Cerf (founder of Random House), radio and TV personality Arlene Francis, newspaper columnist Dorothy Kilgallen, and a different guest panelist each week.
On November 29, 1959, Robert Sullivan, father of Sheerlund’s present owners, appeared as a contestant on the show as a grower of Christmas trees. There were two guest panelists: actress Paulette Goddard and actor Martin Gabel, who was substituting for his wife Arlene Francis.
